Our Commitment to PIPEDA

Kintact complies with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), Canada’s federal privacy law for private-sector organizations. This means we collect, use, and store personal information only for identified purposes, with your consent, and with appropriate safeguards. We are accountable for protecting your information and for ensuring that our third-party service providers meet equivalent privacy standards.

If you are located in a province with its own privacy legislation (such as Quebec, Alberta, or British Columbia), Kintact will also comply with applicable provincial privacy laws.

Information We Collect

Kintact collects only the information you voluntarily provide when setting up your family vault, including:

  • Names of family members
  • Phone numbers
  • Email addresses (optional)
  • Relationship designations (e.g., Father, Mother, Son, Daughter)
  • Your public and private family PIN for authentication purposes

We collect only the personal information necessary to provide our service. This may include optional information such as emergency-related notes (e.g., allergies or medical conditions) if you choose to enter them. Such information is considered sensitive under Canadian law and is handled with additional safeguards and explicit consent.

How We Use Your Information

Your information is used solely to provide the Kintact service, allowing authorized users to access emergency contact information. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.

Specifically, we use your information to:

  • Provide and maintain our service
  • Verify user identity during login
  • Enable emergency access to contact information
  • Improve and customize our service

Consent

By creating a Kintact vault or using our services, you consent to the collection, use, and disclosure of your personal information as described in this Privacy Policy. You may withdraw your consent at any time by deleting your vault or contacting us at kintact@zohomailcloud.ca. Withdrawal of consent may limit our ability to provide certain features of the service.

When entering sensitive information such as health or emergency details, we ask for your explicit consent. You may choose not to provide this information, and it will not affect your ability to use the basic features of Kintact.

Data Storage and Security

All data is stored securely using industry-standard encryption methods. Your family PIN is hashed and salted before storage to enhance security. We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction.

Your data is transmitted over encrypted HTTPS connections and stored securely in databases managed by Supabase, which may use cloud infrastructure with servers located in Canada or the United States. When data is stored or processed outside Canada, it may be subject to the laws of those jurisdictions. We ensure all service providers handling your data are contractually bound to maintain privacy protections equivalent to PIPEDA standards.

Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as your family vault remains active. You may delete your vault at any time, which will permanently remove all associated data.

If you choose to delete your account or vault, all your personal information will be permanently deleted from our systems within 30 days. Backup copies may be retained for up to 30 additional days solely for disaster recovery, after which they are securely destroyed.

Children's Privacy

Kintact is not intended for children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete such information.

Parents or guardians who believe we may have collected information from a child under 13 should contact us immediately at kintact@zohomailcloud.ca.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access your personal information
  • Correct inaccurate personal information
  • Delete your personal information
  • Request a copy of your data
  • Request data portability to another service
  • Opt-out of certain uses of your information

Under PIPEDA, you have the right to request access to your personal information, challenge its accuracy, and request corrections. You also have the right to be informed about how your data is handled and to file a complaint with the Privacy Commissioner of Canada if you believe your privacy rights have been violated.

Third-Party Services

Kintact uses Supabase for database services. We ensure that any third-party providers comply with appropriate data protection standards and are contractually bound to protect personal information in a manner consistent with PIPEDA.

We do not share your personal information with advertisers or marketing companies.

Data Breach Notification

In the unlikely event of a data breach that poses a real risk of significant harm, we will notify affected users and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada as required by PIPEDA. We will take immediate steps to contain the breach, assess potential impacts, and prevent future occurrences.

Kintact has appointed a Privacy Officer responsible for ensuring compliance with PIPEDA and other applicable privacy laws. You may contact our Privacy Officer regarding any concerns, complaints, or requests related to your personal information.
